Confcooperative – Fedagripesca Sicilia, nell’ambito del Po Feamp 2014-2020, misura 1.40 “Protezione e ripristino della biodiversità e degli ecosistemi marini e dei regimi di compensazione nell’ambito di attività di pesca sostenibili – lettera A”, ha attivato un progetto che prevede una campagna di raccolta e rimozione dei rifiuti in mare tra Menfi, Sciacca e Porto Empedoclee una contestuale campagna di informazione e sensibilizzazione sul tema.
L’obiettivo dell’iniziativa è quello di mantenere e rafforzare il ruolo degli operatori sensibili alle problematiche ambientali dei pescatori professionisti e di assicurare un costante recupero e smaltimento dei rifiuti arrivati in mare dall’ambiente costiero e dal tessuto urbano. Sono coinvolti nella campagna un gran numero di pescherecci distribuiti lungo l’intero tratto di costa compreso tra i porti di Menfi, Sciacca e Porto Empedocle.
I pescherecci provvederanno a raccogliere i rifiuti in mare e a riportarli a terra consegnandoli ad una ditta di smaltimento che provvederà al trasporto e successivo smaltimento degli stessi. Verranno recuperati rifiuti ed oggetti ingombranti come cavi di acciaio, calamenti, reti, palamiti ed attrezzature varie, oggetti in plastica e vetro, legname, prodotti dai pescherecci e da soggetti diversi.
Primo obiettivo del progetto è la formazione di una coscienza comune dei professionisti della pesca, che faccia riferimento ad un principio di sostenibilità per la salvaguardia e il recupero dell’ambiente marino, nel rispetto dell’ecocompatibilità dell’attività.
Altro importante obiettivo di tale iniziativa è la sensibilizzazione sul problema dei rifiuti in mare dei diversi tipi di utenti (pescatori, subacquei, bagnanti, turisti, operatori economici, residenti lungo la costa). Il progetto, sotto tale profilo, propone interventi di controllo e pulizia dei fondali con importanti ripercussioni dal punto di vista ecologico, turistico ed ambientale.
Di conseguenza, rimuovere i rifiuti dai fondali e avviare le procedure perché ciò possa accadere anche dopo il termine del progetto, costituisce sicuramente un motivo di maggior valenza del progetto, che oltre ad avere un fine dimostrativo deve anche gettare le basi per la prosecuzione delle attività successivamente al suo termine.
Sabato 29 e domenica 30 aprile 2023, si terranno 3 seminari di presentazione del progetto, aperti a tutti, e che avranno luogo sabato alle ore 11.00 a Porto Empedocle, presso la Torre Carlo V, e alle ore 16,30 a Sciacca, presso le Antiche Grotte del Caricatore; domenica alle ore 19.30 a Menfi, presso Mandrarossa Winery. Interverranno esperti del settore, autorità territoriali e operatori della pesca.
