Ce ne siamo resi conto stasera, nel Salone degli Specchi della Badia Grande, assistendo al Convegno organizzato da Tony Russo di SciaccArte, in collaborazione con il Comune di Sciacca, il Club Inner Wheel Sciacca Terme, il Lions Club Sciacca Host, Bono Vacanze e la Multisala Badia Grande.
Una sinergia importante che nel corso di questi mesi ha sorretto il progetto a lungo accarezzato dal Prof. Tony Russo intorno a un argomento che sta molto a cuore a lui e a tanti uomini di cultura della nostra città e che si è concretizzata anche con la mostra di Accursio Gulino, ancora visitabile al Complesso Monumentale “Fazello”. Quello, appunto di “Ferdinandea”.
Stasera, dicevamo, abbiamo avuto il piacere di ascoltare le relazioni dettagliate di due studiosi autorevoli come Michela D’Angelo e Rosario Lentini che, ciascuno a suo modo, hanno notevolmente arricchito la nostra conoscenza di quello che questo piccolo lembo di terra vulcanica ha rappresentato per l’epoca in cui la sua effimera e breve comparsa ha significato per il mondo di allora. La prof.ssa D’Angelo, storica, ha ripercorso minuziosamente la cronologia di quella “apparizione” citando nomi e particolari di tutti quei personaggi che, a vario titolo, si occuparono di un fenomeno che poteva rappresentare tanto nello scacchiere del Mediterraneo e nelle contese tra Francia, Inghilterra e Regno delle Due Sicilie.
Il Prof. Lentini, storico dell’Economia ha documentato la presenza degli Inglesi in Sicilia tra commercio, finanza e impresa, chiarendo i rapporti che intercorrevano tra imprenditori e commercianti alle prese con la produzione di quelle risorse che facevano ricca la nostra terra, ma anche la nascita di iniziative imprenditoriali e culturali tutte merito dei siciliani di allora. Non solo una iconica Ferdinandea del mito, quella che abbiamo conosciuto stasera, ma un fenomeno storico, culturale e scientifico che ancora oggi continua a far parlare di sè , nonostante la sua sparizione.
